2012 was the last time Reykjavik’s Sigur Rós graced Australia with their ethereal post-rock presence for sold out headline shows. Sonically peerless, thanks to their unique blend of minimalist rock, Jónsi Birgisson’s bowing guitar tones, melancholy bass and classical manners, the now three piece will play many of their best-loved songs, drawing form their extensive back catalogue, as well as new and unreleased material, currently being written towards a forthcoming eighth studio album.
Titled ‘An Evening with Sigur Rós’, the shows will be the first-time they’ve toured Australia without a support band, audiences will be treated to a career-spanning set separated by an interval. The live production will be as characteristically stunning, intense and cinematic as ever, designed by the same team behind their previous Knights of Illumination award-winning tour. Prepare to enter a transcendental state alongside a couple thousand of your closest Sigur Ros fans in Sydney and Melbourne.
2016 was a busy year for the exceptionally creative trio, partnering with the Tate Modern for a project called ‘States of Matter’, an interactive video experience, alongside new original, music composed by Orri Páll Dýrason and Georg Hólm. And launching a 24 hour ‘slow TV’ event, taking viewers on a trip around Iceland, with a special interactive 360°-version to an elongated version of their new single ‘Óveður’.
